Eid-ul- Azha and Sacrifice

Dul Hajj, the twelth month of Islamic calendar is observed as a month of performing Hajj by Muslim people all over the world. It is also the fifth pillar of Islam, the others Being belief in oneness of God, congregational Prayer, Offering Zakath (poor tax) to poor people. The Arabic word Hajj which literarily means “to aim” signifies the aiming of Holy Ka-aba which located Makkah.

  There is in Islamic religion two important festivals Eid-ul-Fithar which marks the end of Ramzan , ninth month of Islamic calendar falls on the first day , the month of Shawwal. People wear new dresses, prepare traditional food and offer the congregational Prayer. Just before gathering for the Prayer, Muslims offer ‘‘Zakathul Fithr’’ thus giving the name ofthis festival.

  Islamic religion mainly aims that all people must become equal in that day so Islam offer to give food to poor people   . Another festival is “Eid-ul-Azha”( festival of sacrifice)which marks the tenth day of Dul Hajj . Muslim devotees go to Makkah in Saudi Arabia

  There is behind of Eid-ul-Azha a historical tradition, that Hazrath Ibrahim (a) who had lived in Iraqbefore four thousand years ago. He had no children, even after they had been married for hundred years, One day He cried to God and asked him that he would have a boy , some month later a son was born as the result of his prayer . Hazrath Ibrahim (a) became very happy and he thanked God.

  The years passed one by one, now Ismail (son of Ibrahim)became thirteen years. Then Allah orders Ibrahim to sacrifice   his son in god’s sake. Ibrahim (A) surprised when He heard the shocked order from Allah He obeyed the commend of Allah. Ibrahim (A) brought out Ismail (A) to Mountain, In the Way of Mountain Ibrahim (A) described what he was ordered.

  Holy Qur’an’s verses signifies it

“Then, when (The son) reached (the age of serious) work with him He said: `Oh! My son! I have seen in a dream that I offer thee in sacrifice, now see what is thy view? The son said : Oh` My father! Do as thou are commended thou will find me if Allah so will one of stead fast.( Holy Qur’an 37:102).

When Ibrahim (A) became ready to sacrifice his son Ismail (A) in the Path of God, He heard a voice speaking to him Oh` Ibrahim You fulfilled the dreams and now I reward you a Goat instead of your loved son, Holy Qur’an describes :

“So when they had both submitted to Allah and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for Sacrifice) we called out him Oh! Ibrahim Thou has already fulfilled the dreams ! Thus indeed do we reward those who do right for this was a momentous Sacrifice (Holy Qur’an 37:103to107) .

  In the memory of this dangerous incident Muslims Sacrifice the got, camel and bedfellows in this festival , thus give in name of this festival as Festival of Sacrifice (Eid-ul-Azha).

  In this day Muslim devotees , who live in the different corner of the world are gathering in Makkah city to perform Hajj . There is not segregation between white and black, wealth and poor , all are equal ,in only a uniform , this unity signifies the unity of Muslim community.
